Equipment does not make you safe. Only skill and good judgement will keep you out of trouble. We have never needed to use any of our signaling equipment (except our VHF radios), but always have it with us. Know how to use each item you carry. There is no time to read the directions when needed. Keep flares and radios as dry as possible. Replace signaling equipment before their expiration date. Recharge VHF radio barriers once a month even if not used. Enjoy paddling, take lessons and keep safe
