How do you become a better sea kayaker? One way is to go white water paddling. This is a great way to learn how to handle strong currents and rough water. While there are many outfitters that can introduce you to white water kayaking, we are the only ones offering a program designed for sea kayakers. Learn the basics including: ferrying, eddy turns, peel-outs, surfing, and more. These programs are as much fun as they are informative.

Prerequisite: Basics or equivalent

Location: Esopus Creek, Phoenicia - Boiceville Area,or equivalent class I/II river
The exact areas we will use will vary depending on the level of the rivers.
Do you wish you could experience the rush of kayaking down a fast moving river? Are you curious about the skills whitewater kayaking requires? This program will teach you the fundamentals of whitewater paddling. We begin on the flat water section of a river and progress into the rapids.
Topics include: trip planning, river reading, forward paddling, edging, turning strokes and more.
For paddlers who have solid core skills and want to play more.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Whitewater, Core Techniques or equivalent. A roll is very useful, but not required at this stage.

This program is taught “on the fly.? We take a river run and turn it into an instructional event. Using the natural conditions of the river, you will have an opportunity to hone the skills you’ve learned in the Core program. We will help you fine tune those skills and teach you how to blend them together. This program is not just for those interested in whitewater. Sea kayakers will greatly benefit as well.
Topics include: edging, leaning, body trim, river safety, reverse paddling, ferrying and more.
