Accommodations

Is camping available near Peekskill?

Camping is available at Croton Point Park [(914) 271-3293], about 15 minutes south of Peekskill by car. The campground is accessible by car and by Metro-North railroad. They do not take reservations for tent sites, so plan accordingly. 4-person and 6-person cabins can be reserved. We are told that these cabins are also highly popular, and that reservations are already being taken for the summer.

What about motel accommodations near Peekskill?

The Peekskill Inn is less than a mile from the our site. Plan to reserve early, since the Inn fills up early.

Listen to Your Pain

Dr. Ben E. Benjamin has dedicated his life to helping people cope with and overcome the pain and stress caused by injury to the bodies soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments). His muscular and friction therapy techniques help reduce and eliminate pain produced by adhesive scar tissue formed from soft tissue injury. As kayakers we need to take care of our bodies.

West Advisor

Written by several West Marine product advisors, the West Advisor attacks challenging problems head-on, and is not afraid to step out on a limb (or step on a few toes) in pursuit of providing the best information. Topics range from how to do minor gel coat repairs, to what's new in GPS, to how to pick the right wire for various applications on board. Most of the topics are chosen based on our customers' frequently asked questions, while others are descriptions of what we've learned, often the hard way, while enjoying the sport of boating. We welcome your comments, and encourage you to suggest topics for future West Advisors.

European Water Chestnut

We call them Devil Heads, but they are really Water Chestnut. We seen them floating along the Hudson River and they are an invasive exotic plant that can be found from Canada to Virginia.

The Millennial Expedition

The expedition started on Dec. 5th, 1999 and was completed in April of 2000.

"A sea kayak battles the freezing Irish waters as the morning sun rises out of the countryside. On the western horizon is the pinnacle of Skellig Michael - seven hundred feet of vertical rock rising out of exploding seas. Somewhere on the isolated island are sixth century monastic ruins where the light of civilization was kept burning during the Dark Ages by early Christian monks. Puffins surface a few yards from the boat, as hundreds of gannets wheel overhead on six-foot wingspans. The ocean rises violently and tosses paddler and boat as if they were discarded floatsam." This is just one day of Chris Duff's incredible three-month journey ... more.
