Personal Paddling Coach
Personal Kayak Training is available from June through end of August: Achieve the steady, rapid growth of your paddling skills! Whether you're a novice who wants to progress quickly, an intermediate stuck at a certain level, or a proficient paddler that wishes to fine-tune, Personal Kayak Training may be your answer. PKT offers you a flexible, one on one coaching service that will be customized to your individual paddling time and needs. Work one on one with the same coach throughout all your sessions: a coach who will know your individual needs and does not have to spend time reassessing you to find your paddling idiosyncrasies.
Atlantic Kayak Tours is committed to the highest standards of kayak training at all levels. Paddling is fun even the very first time, but it becomes sheer joy as the paddler learns to control a boat with grace, ease, and confidence. Our training, together with your practice and experience, set the course toward that joy. Take a program, then use your new skills on tours and on our great Thursday night experiences. When you’re ready, step up to the next program!
We offer training programs at Norrie Point Paddlesport Center and Annsville Creek Paddlesport Center. Since the two venues are different, the programs that we offer at each will have their own character. At Annsville, we have our choice of the protected water of Annsville Creek as well as the more exposed Hudson River. At Norrie, there is just the Hudson River, with its potential wind and currents. At Annsville, we tend to come in to the Center for lunch and perhaps to change boats (the contrast between sea kayaks and whitewater boats can be very instructive). At Norrie, we are most likely to be out all day, as on a tour, taking lunch a few miles up or down river.
We offer an extensive variety of instructional programs for all levels of skill. Our programs range from first-time introductions to sessions that fine-tune the skills of experienced paddlers. Boat handling skills are extended in practical courses that develop safety and rescue skills, leadership, and advanced paddling in open water and surf. We offer land-based programs in navigation, cold-water paddling, American Red Cross First Aid and CPR, and anticipate developing more such courses. We also offer introductory whitewater instruction, mainly as a form of cross-training for sea kayakers. Private instruction for individuals and groups is also available. E-mail for details.
