The famous Necky Looksha double chines give this boat good edging ability. The rocker allows it to turn easily, which makes it fun to paddle. The trade off is that a boat that turns easily doesn't track well. On those long trips, good tracking is a labor saver, and that is why this kayak has a rudder. The Looksha lacks recessed deck fittings and a day hatch, features that we believe are parts of a full blown sea kayak. Without a day hatch, safety equipment must be carried another way, but still be accessible The Looksha 4 has a high rigid seat back which we don't like as it impedes body rotation and laying back for rolling. The Looksha 4 is a high end touring kayak that can be paddled in the ocean in most conditions. The narrow beam (22.5) gives the Looksha 4 a quick nimble feel.
Necky says: The Looksha IV has low profile decks, double hard chines, and a rockered hull. The rocker and chines combine to create a very maneuverable design which responds to the paddler's every move. With rock solid secondary stability, the boat is reassuringly predictable when put on a lean, and carves a turn beautifully. At 17' long and 22.5" wide the boat has good speed and ample storage for extended touring. When in rough water, the hard chines and ample rocker create a very seaworthy platform. This is where the Looksha IV really shines!
