The VCP Avocet is a great all around kayak. The Avocet turns easily, tracks well, has a good skeg for those windy days, handles rough conditions like a champ, and it edges and rolls beautifully. All kayak designs are a set of compromises, and the VCP Avocet has gotten them right. You will not win any races, but it has a good cruising speed. If you are looking for a good all around sea kayak that will not limit anything you might want to do, the Avocet fits the bill. Like the Argonaut and Aquanaut, the Avocet needs to be foamed out to get a custom fit. The recess for the skeg bothers some paddlers, but with proper foaming, this is not a problem. While the hull cross section is based on the Pintail, it is a much easier boat to paddle. We put many first time kayakers into the Avocet with no problems, and experts also love this kayak.

Its hull cross section is based on the Pintail for liveliness, but with a bit less rocker, longer keel line, shorter upsweep at the stern and deeper bow with the VCP characteristic flare for a drier ride. This boat is designed for the average size kayaker and for shorter trips.
