Real kayakers use ropes. Stronger, safer and easier to use than straps. Ropes do less damage to boats. Just learn to tie a truckers hitch and you can toss your straps away. Stop in for a lesson on tying a truckers hitch.
Bow and stern lines when carrying canoes or kayaks on vehicles. Deck
lines and toggles on kayaks. New England Ropes Sta-Set in 3/16" works great. When staff gets new kayaks the first thing many do is to replace the low quality deck and toggle lines that come on kayaks. Sta-Set is strong and low stretch, which makes it great for these uses.
We also use 5/16" Sta-Set to tie boats onto cars and trailers. We have not had one line break in the decade we have been using the New England Ropes Sta-Set. Ropes that come with kayaks do n
ot have an inner core and outer jacket, so when it wears, it is the structural part of the rope wearing. When this type of rope breaks your kayak falls. With good quality rope, you will see the outer jacket wear and have a chance to replace it before the inner core breaks. Good quality lines are cheap insurance for your kayaks. Just ask any of us that have lost a kayak to a broken rope!
New England Ropes says: New England Ropes Defines Performance.
And... delivers the winning edge! Choose from a selection of strong, low stretch and lightweight lines that will improve the performance of your boat, help to reduce weight aloft, and allow you to use smaller diameter, easier-to-handle lines.
