The problem with many American PFDs have been their lack of pockets. Kokatat allows you to customize your PDF to fit your needs.
Pockets are great places to carry safety equipment. You need to be careful of what you carry in your PFD. The more bulk in your PFD the harder it is to paddle and do a self rescue. Climbing onto a kayak is hard enough in conditions that would capsize you. PFDs makes climbing back into the kayak much more difficult. Remember that the added weight will make a difference in the flotation of the PFD. As the PFD only has about 16 pounds of flotation adding a camera, GPS, VHF and a few other items can eliminate the flotation of the PFD. Always practice your rescues with the equipment you would have in your kayak, including in your PFD. Many safety items float so they add to the buoyancy of the PFD, but the bulk still interfere with self rescues.
