To Previous PageSalamander Keel Hauler

This was the ideal tow belt for many paddlers. Small, well built and easy to use. It is designed for calm to moderate sea kayaking. As it is only 30 feet long, this tow line is too short for rough water towing. Works well on all Hudson River, NY Harbor and Long Island Sound paddling in up to force four (small craft warnings) conditions. For force four conditions with following seas a longer line is needed.Salamander Keel Hauler Photo In late 2003 Salamander changed the carabineer from stainless steel as pictured to anodized, wire-gate carabineer. This carabineer is large and does not hold up as well in salt water. The indent where the closed wire-gate sits also interferes with hooking and unhooking the tow line. The old carabineers also had an eye so that the line could not fall off the carabineer.

Salamander says: Designed for sea kayaking, this waist worn throw/tow bag is always handy.
